How the estimate works

For a property that isn’t rented out, Spain taxes non-residents on imputed income: 1.1% of the valor catastral where the municipality has revised values in the last ten years, otherwise 2%. That notional income is taxed at 19% for residents of the EU, Norway and Iceland, and 24% for everyone else — including UK residents since Brexit. Each owner files for their own share, and the return for a given year can be filed any time up to 31 December of the following year.

Renting the property out changes both the sums and the deadline — the full guide covers both cases, and the numbers here come from the AEAT’s own rules (linked from the guide, checked against the BOE).
